Mar 20,2025

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Tie Liu has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the Hydrology and Water Resources Management section in Evidence in Earth Science (EIES). Prof. Liu is a distinguished scholar with extensive expertise in watershed coupling model construction, geographic information mining, and sustainable watershed ecological and environmental development.

As a recipient of the National Talent Program in 2013, Prof. Liu has made remarkable contributions to the integration of big data, remote sensing, geospatial technologies, and artificial intelligence in hydrology and water resources management. His research focuses on complex system analysis and intelligent decision support in watersheds, ecosystems, environments, emergency response, agriculture, and urban planning. His work has significantly advanced watershed hydrological modeling, digital twin technology, urban and watershed flood forecasting, underground pipeline optimization, sponge city development, water environment simulation and treatment, and smart agriculture-water-urban systems. Through his research, he has developed innovative approaches for spatial relationship visualization, spatiotemporal evolution simulation of physical processes, and enhanced decision-making support.

In the past five years, Prof. Liu has led six national and provincial-level projects with a total funding of 66.16 million RMB and has received two provincial-level scientific and technological progress awards. He has authored 128 research papers, including 94 SCI-indexed publications, and has contributed 24 papers as the first or corresponding author in top-tier journals such as Earth’s Future, Journal of Hydrology, and Water Resources Management.

Prof. Liu has successfully supervised nine PhD students and eight master’s students, including four international scholars. He currently serves as the Secretary-General of the Xinjiang Natural Resources Society and is a board member of Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies and Journal of Arid Land. Additionally, he is a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences of Belgium. Prof. Liu also holds visiting professorships at Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (Uzbekistan), Xinjiang University, and Xinjiang Normal University.

We are confident that Prof. Liu’s expertise and leadership will significantly enhance the Hydrology and Water Resources Management section of EIES, fostering high-quality research and innovation in this critical field. We look forward to his contributions in advancing scientific discourse and knowledge dissemination in hydrology and water resources management.
