Author Guidelines
Aims and Scope
Evidence in Earth Science is a multidisciplinary, open-access journal covering a broad range of Earth science topics, including geophysics, geology, hydrology, cryosphere sciences, environmental impact and sustainability, and more. We welcome submissions that are original, scientifically rigorous, and contribute to advancing knowledge in Earth science disciplines.
Article Types
We accept the following article types:
- Original Research Articles: Comprehensive studies presenting novel data, methods, or interpretations.
- Review Articles: Summaries of the current state of research in a specific field, identifying gaps and proposing future directions.
- Methods/Technical Notes: Descriptions of innovative methodologies, protocols, or technical approaches.
- Short Communications/Brief Reports: Concise studies reporting significant preliminary findings or incremental but novel insights.
- Perspectives/Opinions: Expert views on emerging trends, policy implications, or future directions in Earth sciences.
Submission Process and Peer Review

Online Submission
All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system. Authors should create an account, follow the step-by-step instructions, and ensure all required fields and documents are completed before final submission. -
Initial Check
The editorial office will first screen submissions for completeness, adherence to the journal’s scope, and alignment with ethical standards. Submissions that do not meet these criteria may be returned to the authors without peer review. -
Peer Review
Evidence in Earth Science employs a single-blind peer review process:- Reviewer Selection: Manuscripts are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
- Confidentiality: The identities of reviewers remain confidential during the review process.
- Review Criteria: Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on originality, technical quality, clarity, significance, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
- Revision and Decision: Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts according to reviewers’ comments. The final decision (accept, minor/major revision, or reject) will be made by the handling editor in consultation with reviewers.

Revisions
If revisions are requested, authors should address all reviewer comments systematically and provide a point-by-point response, with the revision parts highlighted. Revised manuscripts should be submitted promptly through the same online system.
Manuscript Preparation

Language and Style
- Manuscripts must be written in English.
- Authors should ensure clear and concise language. Grammar and spelling should be checked before submission; use of a professional language editing service is encouraged if needed.

Formatting
We require that the manuscript submitted by the author be formatted according to the template provided by this journal. -
Abstract and Keywords
- Abstract: A single paragraph of 260–300 words briefly outlining the scope, methods, major findings, and conclusions.
- Keywords: Up to five keywords reflecting the manuscript's content, with each keyword separated by a semicolon.

Main Text
A typical manuscript structure may include:- Introduction: Context, objectives, and significance of the work.
- Materials and Methods: Data used in your study and details on experimental/analytical methods, study area, data sources, and statistical approaches.
- Results: Presentation of findings with appropriate tables, figures, or graphs.
- Discussion: Interpretation of results, comparison with existing literature, limitations, and implications.
- Conclusions: A concise summary of the main findings and future outlook.

Figures and Tables
- Figures: Numbered in the order of appearance; include clear captions and high-resolution images (minimum 300 dpi).
- Tables: Numbered sequentially; each should have a concise title. Use text or Microsoft Word/Excel format for table data.

Acknowledgments
- Acknowledge individuals, institutions, or funding agencies that supported the work.

References
- Use a consistent citation style (e.g., APA, Harvard, or Vancouver).
- Provide complete details for each reference, including author names, title, journal/book, volume, page numbers, and year of publication.
- References should be listed in alphabetical or numerical order at the end of the manuscript.
Data Availability and Code
Authors are encouraged to deposit data and code in publicly accessible repositories (e.g., Zenodo, Dryad, GitHub) and include a statement in the manuscript describing how the data and code can be accessed.
Ethical and Legal Considerations

Publication Ethics
- The journal follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Authors must ensure the originality of their work and avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, or any unethical research practices.

Human and Animal Subjects
- If the study involves human participants or animal subjects, authors must provide ethics approval statements and follow relevant regulations and guidelines.

Competing Interests
- All authors must disclose any financial, professional, or personal interests that could be perceived to influence the research.
- A statement of “The authors declare that there are no competing interests related to the publication of this article.” is required if none exist.
Copyright and Open Access
All articles in Evidence in Earth Science are published under an open-access license (e.g., Creative Commons Attribution License, CC BY). By submitting their manuscript, authors agree to grant the journal the right to publish the work in all formats. Authors retain copyright of their published work. Proper citation is required for any reuse of published articles.
Publication Frequency and Article Processing Charges (APCs)
- Evidence in Earth Science publishes quarterly (four issues per year).
- Article Processing Charges (if any) will be free until the Dec. 31, 2025.
